This is a course about writing and community. We will discuss and do a lot of writing about what civic role students can play in local, national, and global communities, as well as how they can use writing to advance both their professional goals and the goals of various communities that matter to them. Students will research and write about contemporary civic issues, explore different ways to move an audience to action, and analyze the effectiveness of real campaigns to remedy social problems. Students will also develop a real project to make an impact on an issue of their choice, and those who are interested can receive hours for their Student Development Transcript.
