MFA Alum and Rona Jaffe Award recipient, Ashley M. Jones, will read from her debut poetry collection, Magic City Gospel, at Books & Books in Coral Gables on Friday, January 20th at 8pm. A book signing will follow.
Ann Hood is the bestselling author of the novels The Knitting Circle, The Obituary Writer, and The Red Thread. Her memoir, Comfort: A Journey Through Grief, was chosen as one of the top ten nonfiction books of 2008 by Entertainment Weekly and was a NYT editor's choice. She's received two Pushcart Prizes, two Best American Food Writing Awards, a Best American Spiritual Writing Award, and a Best American Travel Writing Award. Her new novel, The Book That Matters Most, is due out in August.
MFA Alum, Louis K. Lowy, will debut his second novel, a sci-fi thriller titled To Dream: Anatomy of a Humachine I, at Books & Books in Coral Gables on January 28th at 5pm. An author signing will follow the reading, and food & drink will immediately follow.
Lauren Grodstein is the author of the New York Times-bestseller, A Friend of the Family, and the Washington Post Book of the Year, The Explanation for Everything. Her new novel, Sometimes at Night, will be out in March 2017 (Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill). Her work has been translated into over a dozen languages, and her articles and essays have been included in Columbia Magazine, The New York Times, Post Road, Gourmet, and Salon. She directs the MFA program at Rutgers University - Camden.

FIU presents the 2017 Lawrence Sanders Award in Fiction to novelist, Jane Smiley (A Thousand Acres, Pulitzer). The award ceremony will take place at the WUC Ballroom and will be followed by a reading and on-stage Q&A with Creative Writing Program Director, Les Standiford. An author signing will then take place at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore (WUC downstairs) where books will be sold. Refreshments will be served during the author signing.
Winners of the FIU Student Literary Awards contest for Graduate and Undergraduate Fiction, Non-fiction, and Poetry will read from their winning works. Runners-up will be honorably mentioned. Join us to celebrate our school's finest writers at the Barnes & Noble bookstore on Biscayne Bay Campus. Refreshments will be served.
